A Shady Courtyard Garden, Paris

A law firm based in central Paris wanted to transform their courtyard as their new offices looked out onto bare walls and concrete.  They required a space for entertaining and meetings in summer as well as having enough space for their ping-pong table.

The shady courtyard only receives a couple of hours of direct sunlight in summer, though the white walls bring reflected light.  The far walls, owned by neighbours, could not be drilled or touched.  The answer was to plant shade tolerant plants with a woodland feel and to construct plant supports integrated into the planters.
